Size matters
The Venza is not just a Camry on steroids; it’s a large vehicle that cossets its occupants most generously. All five seating positions provide outstanding head, leg and shoulder room. Plus, those in the 60/40-split rear bench will find extra comfort on long journeys thanks to multi-position reclining seat backs.

With bums on all seats, the Venza still supplies plenty of cargo room beneath its liftback tailgate. Taller items may be constricted somewhat due to the cut of the roofline and sharply angled tail of the Venza but dropping the rear seats creates a massive cargo hold accentuated by a flat load.

On the road
From the get-go, the Venza imparts “upscale” messaging that’s inconsistent with its attractive price point. That sensation only becomes stronger after spending time bonding behind its wheel. There’s nothing tinny, cheap or substandard feeling about this vehicle.

Despite its near-premium feel, the Venza isn’t going to trigger an adrenaline surge in driving enthusiasts but I think that’s the point, and its lifeless, over-assisted electrically-operated power steering supports that theory. This isn’t a “sports” sedan/wagon/liftback/crossover or whatever you wish to label it.

The Venza is a relaxing vehicle to drive that in spite of its 19-inch wheels and elevated seating position handles much like a large car. Ride quality is absorbent but not as supple as it would typically be in a smooth riding sedan.

Still, I doubt anyone would choose to complain or find the treatment intolerable. They may however find annoyance with clipped rearward visibility, which tends to complicate parallel parking.
